Catamarans
This is What You Get
Your Private Vessel in Paradise: The British Virgin Islands are made for catamarans: Max 2 hours cruising between hotspots. Get close to the beach with a shallow draft. Stability and more space with double hulls.
All-Inclusive Package: Your private crew of 2-4 professionals, including a chef who knows what you want. 5-star food, cocktails, water toys, option for dive instructor. You just concentrate on having fun.
Island Highlights: Snorkel at the Pirate Caves or SCUBA dive on the RMS Rhone. Party onboard the Willy T, hike The Baths on Virgin Gorda and sip Painkillers at Jost Van Dyke’s iconic beach bars like Soggy Dollar.
How to Get to Your BVI Catamaran Charter?
We recommend you start your BVI catamaran charter in Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola. This is the largest and most populated island in the British Virgin Islands. There are two ways to get there:
The most direct way is to fly to the Terrence B. Lettsome Airport (EIS) on Beef Island, which is connected to Tortola. – This lands you only 30 minutes from the Marina by car. Or you can come via St Thomas. See below.
Flying Into the US Virgin Islands
There are better flight connections to Cyril E. King Airport, St Thomas (STT) in the USVI, and most of our clients choose to come this way despite the slightly longer journey.
From St Thomas, you have 3 options:
- Start Your Catamaran Charter in the USVI: Find a BVI Charter Catamaran that offers pickups in St Thomas (Yacht Haven Grande Marina). Be aware that not all catamarans have the permits required to charter in USVI territory – We will make sure to find one that does!
- Private Water Taxi Transfer: Alternatively, we can easily organize a transfer by water taxi from St Thomas to your charter in the BVI. It takes about 30-40 minutes, including customs clearance on arrival, and costs around $150-200 per person.
- Take the Local Ferry: The last option is to do the transfer independently by ferry.
Where to Go on Your BVI Catamaran Charter?
Starting from Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola, we recommend a route that goes counter-clockwise around the British Virgin Islands, first hitting the small southern islands: Norman Island, Peter Island, and Cooper Island. Here, you will discover some of BVI’s best dive sites like the Indians and the famous RMS Rhone Shipwreck.
Next, you will head to Virgin Gorda Bath’s National Park and maybe swing by Trellis Bay, where they have the monthly full-moon parties and the legendary Trellis Bay New Year Celebration with Aragorn’s fireballs and Mocko Jumbies.
Depending on the weather and your time schedule, we suggest you include Anegada Island. The reasons to go to Anegada are the Anegada Barrier Reef, the salt ponds –home to the flamingos– and the fantastic seafood restaurants like the Lobster Trap.
When on the way back, return via the Nort side of Tortola, hitting Cane Garden Bay and finishing on Jost Van Dyke, one of our personal favorites. Here, you can wind down at legendary beach bars like Soggy Dollar and Foxy’s while enjoying a Painkiller Cocktail with your toes in the sand.
On your last day, you will come back through Sopers Hole to Nanny Cay, where you started.

What is Included in an All-Inclusive BVI Catamaran Charter?
All-inclusive catamaran charters are standard in the British Virgin Islands (unlike the Mediterranean, where plus-expense charters are more common.) All-inclusive means a set price that covers all expenses related to the charter: yacht, crew, food, beverages, fuel for a set hours of cruising, and activities.
Who is it for? We recommend this option for clients who want a hassle-free experience where they can enjoy their vacation without worrying about additional costs or budgeting for unexpected expenses.
Nevertheless, the issues are the same as in an all-inclusive luxury resort – you can’t have a hot tub full of Moet…
How Much Does a BVI Catamaran Charter Cost?
The crewed catamaran fleet in the BVI ranges from around 50 feet to 80 feet, priced from $15,000 to $100,000 for an all-inclusive one-week charter.
$15-30k/week
In this price range, you get a nice catamaran (often a Leopard or Lagoon between 50-59 feet) with 4-5 cabins for 8 guests. You get two crew: a Captain and a Chef/Hostess. You get most meals included and a reasonable amount of local alcohol. You get fuel for getting to your next destination each day. You get free use of all water toys.

The most common layout of a BVI charter catamaran is something like this:
- Main Saloon: Big central lounge with a galley (kitchen) and dining/lounging area. You will also often find a TV, a game area, and a bar.
- 4-5 Cabins: From this common area, you have access to 4-5 cabins located in the hulls. Some catamarans have all double cabins, and some have twins or convertible cabins. All cabins have private ensuite bathrooms.
- Cockpit/Aftdeck: Here, you will have an al-fresco dining area and it is most likely where you will eat most of your meals. –Outside but out of the wind.
- Bow/Foredeck: You will either have trampolines or a hard deck, usually with a lounge area –a great place to hang out while underway.
- Flybridge: The crown of a catamaran, here you will find a seating area and bar or just a sunbathing area, and sometimes a jacuzzi. Depends on the size.
- Swim platform: Swim platforms are often hydraulic. They make getting in and out of the water much easier. Plus, it is a great place to lounge right on the water’s edge –like your own private mini beach.
Check Out Our Walk-Through Videos
We attend the annual USVI and BVI Yacht Shows to step onboard each Catamaran and meet the crew. –And to make these awesome walk-through videos to send to our clients. Seeing the yachts in person helps us assess which are best suited for different clients and, of course, identify our favorite catamarans. It’s a crucial part of ensuring the perfect yacht, crew, and client match.
What Do You Eat on a BVI Catamaran Charter?
On a BVI catamaran charter, dining is a blend of gourmet cuisine and island-inspired flavors.
Breakfast often includes fresh pastries, tropical fruits, and cooked-to-order options like omelets.
Lunch features light, refreshing meals such as grilled fish tacos, salads, and ceviche, served al fresco.
Afternoon snacks may include charcuterie boards, chips with guacamole, or coconut shrimp.
Dinners are a highlight, with gourmet dishes like grilled lobster, jerk chicken, or filet mignon, paired with fine wines or cocktails.
Desserts range from key lime pie to chocolate lava cake. Drinks include iconic BVI cocktails like Painkillers, local beers, and fresh juices.
Special Dietary Requests
Most charters cater to dietary restrictions like gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan diets. Some even specialize, which might be worth considering if you have an all-vegan or all-gluten-free group, ex. Mention this in advance!
When is the Best Time for a BVI Catamaran Charter?
The main charter season in the British Virgin Islands spans from December to March, with a peak around Christmas/New Year.
It gets especially around the holidays, so make sure to book your BVI yacht charter well in advance. Ideally, you would inquire about your coming charter 12 months in advance.
WHY? The best charter yachts are often fully booked long in advance, and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead for a BVI yacht charter. Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter.

What to Pack for Your BVI Catamaran Charter?
We recommend packing in a soft-sided suitcase or duffel bag, as they are easier to stow onboard after unpacking. Charter catamarans in the BVI usually provide basic toiletries, sunscreen, and beach towels, so focus on versatile clothing and personal essentials. Pack lightly—casual wear, one nice outfit, flip-flops, swimsuits, sunglasses, and a hat should suffice.
MARKET TRENDS
This is Happening in BVI Catamaran Charters
- Carribean yacht charter has seen a growing demand for larger and more luxurious catamarans. In the last 2 decades alone, Catamarans have evolved significantly, growing from around 40 feet in the year 2000 to over 70 feet in the 2020s.
- The British Virgin Islands has a new development of more power catamarans – mainly from Nanny Cay (marina)– with many new catamarans in the 60+ and 70+ range, like the popular 64-foot Lagoon Hulya and the brand-new 80-foot Sunreef Nauti Nickel.
- There is more emphasis on luxury amenities such as a Jacuzzi on the bow or flybridge (see the much loved 68-foot Sunreef Catamaran Christina Too with 21 Reviews!!). The law forbids Jet Skis in the British Virgin Islands. Instead, there is a focus on underwater and wind-driven sports – the British Virgin Islands is a top destination for these sports!

Great yacht charter broker…
“Our yacht broker, Louis Lamprell, was available, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional throughout the process. He helped me identify the correct size of catamaran for our cruise, as well as helping me—as a first time yach charterer—understand all the ins and outs of the process, what would be needed, what to expect, etc. The entire experience exceeded our expectations.”
