BVI charter area

Beef Island & Trellis Bay

Beef Island and Trellis Bay are not trying to win the prettiest-anchorage contest. They earn their place by making the logistics work: the airport is here, and Trellis Bay is a genuinely useful first or last night.

Beef Island sits at the east end of Tortola, connected by bridge and home to the BVI’s main airport, so most charters touch it at the very start or end. Anchor in Trellis Bay for casual food, local colour, and a short hop across to Scrub Island, then head out toward Virgin Gorda or the sister islands once everyone is aboard.

What to See and Do on Beef Island & Trellis Bay

This is a practical charter page, and that is the point. Beef Island and Trellis Bay help solve the small arrival problems that can otherwise eat into the first day of a BVI charter.

Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport

Beef Island is home to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, the main airport serving the BVI. That matters because a yacht charter does not really start when guests see the first beach. It starts when the bags land, the transfer works, and everyone gets from travel mode to yacht mode without losing patience. For some groups, that makes Beef Island one of the most important islands of the whole week.

Trellis Bay

Aragorn's Studio in Trellis Bay

Trellis Bay sits close to the airport and gives the area its charter usefulness. It has restaurants, local stops, dinghy access, and a waterfront that can carry a first or last night when timing is awkward. We would not describe it as the dreamiest overnight in the BVI, but that is not the job. Trellis is where the route becomes easy.

Loose Mongoose and Local Stops

Mocko Jumbies at Trellis Bay New Year Party

The Loose Mongoose and nearby Trellis Bay stops give the area a casual, local feel. This can be a nice contrast after more polished places like Scrub Island or Virgin Gorda. We like it for groups who want an easy meal ashore without dressing up the night too much. It is also useful when guests arrive at different times and the yacht needs a forgiving meeting point.

Aragorn’s Studio and Full Moon Energy

Loose Mongoose Trellis Bay Restaurant

Trellis Bay has a creative side too, especially around Aragorn’s Studio and the area’s well-known fireball and full-moon-party culture. We would not build every charter around an event here, but when timing lines up, it can give the itinerary a bit of BVI personality that is not just beach, bar, repeat.

The Scrub Island Link

One of the biggest reasons Beef Island and Trellis Bay matter is the Scrub Island connection. Scrub Island’s private launch runs from Trellis Bay Dock for resort and marina guests, which makes this area very useful for pre-charter stays, late arrivals, or groups who want to start with resort comfort before moving into the classic island loop.

Anchorages and mooring notes

Trellis Bay can work as a practical overnight, especially for airport timing, Scrub Island transfers, or an easy first/last night. We would not force it into a route if the group has plenty of time and wants a more scenic anchorage. In that case, the yacht can move on toward Scrub, Guana, Cooper, Norman, or Virgin Gorda. The best use of Beef Island is honest: use it when logistics matter, skip it when they do not.

Fitting Beef Island & Trellis Bay into a BVI itinerary

Beef Island & Trellis Bay works best when it has a clear job in the route. We would not add it just to collect another island name. Start with our 7-day BVI catamaran itinerary, then decide whether this stop improves the week for your group: easier logistics, better diving, quieter snorkeling, or a smoother east-end flow.

FAQs

Should we start a BVI yacht charter from Beef Island?

Sometimes. If your yacht, transfer, or first night is near Trellis Bay or Scrub Island, Beef Island logistics can be very efficient.

Is Trellis Bay a beautiful overnight anchorage?

It can be useful and characterful, but we would not sell it as the most scenic overnight in the BVI. We use it when the logistics justify it.

How close is Trellis Bay to the airport?

Trellis Bay is very close to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, which is why it works for arrivals and departures.

What can guests do in Trellis Bay?

Guests can go ashore for casual food, local shops, Aragorn’s Studio, and an easy waterfront evening when timing suits.

What islands pair well with Beef Island and Trellis Bay?

Scrub Island, Guana Island, Virgin Gorda, Tortola, and Marina-area east-end routes all pair naturally with Beef Island logistics.
