Scrub Island

Scrub Island is one of the BVI’s best soft landings: a full marina, resort, spa, and beach a short private launch from Trellis Bay, right by the airport.

Because it sits off Beef Island at Tortola’s east end, it works best as a first or last night when arrival or departure timing is tight, keeping the airport-to-yacht handover simple. Berth in the marina or anchor nearby, use the resort and spa, then slip out toward Virgin Gorda or the sister islands when the charter proper begins.

What to See and Do on Scrub Island

Scrub is not a wild, do-it-all adventure island. It is a comfort-and-logistics island, and that is genuinely useful on a crewed yacht charter. The trick is using it for the right reason: arrival ease, marina access, resort time, or a calm night before the route opens up.

Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina

The resort is the island’s main identity, and it changes how we use Scrub on a charter. Guests can step ashore for a more polished meal, spa time, a pool-and-beach reset, or simply a night that feels less remote than the classic mooring-ball stops. That can be exactly right for a first night when everyone is still arriving, unpacking, and finding the rhythm of the yacht.

The Marina and Dockage

Scrub Island’s marina is the practical reason captains and brokers keep it in the planning conversation. Dockage, services, and a resort setting can make a charter feel easier, especially for groups that have a late arrival, extra provisions, or guests who prefer a more structured first evening. We would not build every BVI itinerary around dockage, but when the logistics line up, Scrub can save a lot of friction.

The Trellis Bay Launch Connection

Scrub Island is tied closely to Beef Island and Trellis Bay. The resort’s own arrival route runs through Trellis Bay Dock, which is close to the airport. For charter guests, that means Scrub can work as a very clean bridge between flying in and actually being on the water. It is not glamorous in the brochure sense; it is glamorous because the day works.

Beach, Pool, and Spa Time

Scrub is a good fit for groups that want the yacht, but also like a little resort polish. The beach, pool, spa, and restaurants can give mixed groups an easy win: some guests can swim and relax, others can go ashore, and nobody has to commit to a long excursion. We use this kind of stop carefully, because too much resort time can dilute the yacht experience. One good Scrub night, though, can be very helpful.

How Scrub Fits the Route

Scrub sits in a useful east-end pocket with Trellis Bay, Guana Island, and Virgin Gorda within natural route reach. From here, the yacht can move toward Virgin Gorda, the North Sound, Anegada, or back toward Tortola and the Sir Francis Drake Channel. It is especially good when the group wants short first-day movement instead of a big opening passage.

Anchorages and mooring notes

For yacht planning, Scrub is primarily a marina and resort stop rather than a classic quiet anchorage. Your captain will confirm dockage, marina access, and whether resort facilities fit the plan. We like Scrub most at the beginning or end of a charter, or as a strategic pause between the east end of Tortola and Virgin Gorda. If the group wants a wilder overnight, we would usually look toward Guana, Norman, Cooper, or the North Sound instead.

Fitting Scrub Island into a BVI itinerary

Scrub Island works best when it has a clear job in the route. We would not add it just to collect another island name.
