New Year’s in the BVI Is 80% Booked. Christmas Is Not

New Year’s week in the British Virgin Islands is sold for most of the fleet, and it sold earlier than any year we have tracked. On 19 October 2026 we read the booking calendars of the 367 crewed yachts listed for the BVI: 292 of them already show a confirmed charter over 27 December to 2 January. Christmas week is a different picture. 168 show a booking, and more than half the fleet still has nothing recorded over 19 to 26 December.

Broker insight

New Year needs six months at the very least, and nine to twelve if you want a very specific boat. The popular ones go fast. Christmas is more forgiving, though being early always gives you much more choice. Reach out as soon as the idea comes up and we can put a hold on something good while you decide.

What this means for your charter

If you want this Christmas on a crewed yacht in the BVI, it is still a normal booking: good boats, real choice in every size band, and a captain who knows the week. Ask now rather than in November, because the Christmas calendars fill from the top down.

If you want this New Year, we can still ask, but you are choosing from the last 10 to 15 percent of the fleet, and a boat with nothing on her calendar is not proven free until her manager says so.

If you want New Year 2027, book it next summer. Our own festive charters are placed, on average, 161 days before the start date. That puts the real New Year booking window in July, August and September.

How booked is the BVI for the holidays?

Week Yachts with a confirmed booking Booked, on hold or blocked
Christmas, 19 to 26 December 2026 168 of 367 (46%) 58%
New Year, 27 December to 2 January 292 of 367 (80%) 88%

The count is of recorded bookings, holds and owner blocks on each yacht’s own calendar, read on 19 October 2026. Thirty of the boats with nothing recorded have empty calendars, which proves nothing either way. Only the central agent confirms a free week.

Why did New Year fill faster than ever?

Because demand for the festive weeks has grown every year and the fleet has not. Our own numbers show the shape:

New Year season Festive BVI and USVI charters booked through DMA
2023-24 9
2024-25 11
2025-26 19
2026-27, booked by late August 2026 33

The typical New Year booking in that set was placed 161 days ahead. Rates follow the demand: the median New Year premium over a March week on the same boat is about 18 percent, and the biggest boats charge more. A yacht that still shows Christmas open and New Year booked is the normal pattern this year, not the exception. Among them, with Christmas unrecorded and New Year gone as of 19 October: NO BAD IDEAS, SEASCAPE V, CROSSED SABRE, ARTHUR’S WAY, STAY SALTY, SWEET ESCAPE, BLACKSHEEP, MAMMA MIA, CUAN LAW, OUTTA TOUCH, INDULGE II.

Our take

Christmas in the BVI is the better week anyway: the same water, quieter anchorages, no fireworks premium, and the boat is yours from the 19th to the 26th before the New Year crowd arrives at Jost Van Dyke. If Christmas works for your family, book it now. If only New Year works, send us your dates today and we will place the request, and put July 2027 in your diary for the year after.
