Crew Information
Captain: Jenine De Kock
MEET YOUR CREW:
CAPTAIN: Jenine De Kock
CHEF: Ludeke (Luka) Niehaus
Jenine is an experienced sailor who has worked in all roles on charter yachts. Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Jenine completed her Bachelor of Commerce Degree and spent four years working in corporate retail. She left Cape Town for a brief traveling sabbatical and never looked back. She is an avid traveler and after spending six months in India she decided to enter the marine industry and took a role on super yachts. Although she initially joined super yachts as a way to work and travel, a deep love for being on the water is what kept her there. After working five seasons on super yachts, Jenine transitioned to sailing catamarans where she can have a more hands-on and intimate experience with both guests and sailing alike. This being her third season in the Virgin Islands, she enjoys sharing with guests her experiences of life on the water and her favorite spots. She also loves any activities to do with water, especially snorkeling and scuba diving. Jenine is highly outgoing, loves people and finding new and undiscovered places that she can share with those who visit the Virgin Islands.
Ludeke grew up in a nature conservancy near Gqeberha, a small coastal city in South Africa. From a young age, he was passionate about nature and water-sports, excelling in water polo and open-water swimming. Daily cooking has been a significant part of Ludeke's life since his teenage years, evolving into a profound passion that encompasses sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients and crafting delicious and visually captivating dishes from different cultures.
After school, Ludeke earned a Cordon Bleu Diploma from Silwood School of Cookery in Cape Town, an award-winning institution recognised by the Commandery of the Cordon Bleu of France. His culinary education included rigorous industry training at some of the world's top restaurants, such as The Test Kitchen, Pot Luck Club, Salsify, Beau Constantia, and Chef's Warehouse. This foundation fueled his goal to explore and experience diverse cuisines in their countries of origin.
Following his culinary training, Ludeke lectured and mentored chefs-in-training at Silwood. He also launched his bespoke chef venture, The Messy Chef Collective, providing private chef services. Despite the success of his venture, Ludeke missed the outdoors and the ocean, prompting him to combine his two passions and his goal to travel by becoming a chef in the yachting industry.
After obtaining his maritime qualifications, Ludeke worked as a qualified sole chef and deckhand on various vessels. His dedication to both his innovative culinary skills and maritime expertise ensures that he brings a unique blend of talents to enhance guest experiences.
Jenine and Luka look forward to hosting you on Salty Dog and creating wonderful memories for you all with their combined expertise.

Every meal Chef Luka made us was AMAZING... can't even pick a favorite.
the "Signature cocktails by Jenine" every day were delicious! I think we all agreed that the Lime in the Coconut was #1.
Thank you Jenine and Luka for making wonderful memories with us. It was fun getting to know you both and exchanging/sharing our embarrassing childhood photos :)

This was our first experience in the BVI's and our first sailing trip as a family.
From the moment we stepped on the boat it felt like a 5-star resort with incredible scenery, once in a lifetime memories, thoughtful attention and meals that made us say "This is Amazing!" over and over again. We visited so many places along our sail and had a new and fun experience at every stop.
The mornings were almost surreal with warm sunshine, perfectly neat quarters and hot coffee ready to greet us every morning. We absolutely loved getting to know our crew and Captain jenine made us feel so taken care of with her knowledge of the waterways and boat mechanics. We loved hearing about the various places we sailed through and she showed us all the perfect stops and made our trip feel 100% catered to our family. We could not be more thrilled with everything she recommended.
to make things even more insane, our private on-board chef Ludeke "Luka" created a daily menu that was out of this world. We loved every meal and "Drinks By jenine" allowed everyone to kick back and enjoy the stunning sunsets with ease.
We will tell everyone we know that this was THE BEST VACATION EVER. So thankful for the Salty Dog crew and Boat :)

Love you guys!! The trip would have not been the same without THE BEST crew.

Sailing on the Salty Dog wa such a fun birthday trip. Spending my birthday at Soggy Dollar was great but facials at Scrub island was 100% my favorite. So lucky to go on this trip.
hands down Gordon and jenine are the best in the business. patient, kind, attentive with ....... it is the little things that also impact the trip, teaching a son to tie a knot or stepping aboard to amazing turkey paninis or teaching "Mexican Train".
Gordon and Jenine are also so knowledgeable of the business and able to "read the room" or guests needs. Early dinner ..... no worries. Dingying to shore for coffee ...let's go. Quick snorkel at the best rock....I know the place.
I could go on and on but overall an enjoyable and relaxing and fun week.
You two are amazing!!
We started in St. Thomas and made our way to Caneel Bay where we jumped in the ocean and ate a lovely dinner at Zozo's.
The next day we left St. John and headed to Tortola for customs and on to Norman Island. We snorkeled the Indians, jumped off Willy T's and spent the night.
Before sailing to Coopers, we got to explore The Caves and the next stop was The Baths (one of my favorites)
This has been one of the best trips of our lives and we're so grateful to be with such a great group!
We were so blessed to have such an amazing time with Gordon and Jenine. Amazing captain cocktail hour and Jenine's fabulous meals.
They really were great company and made every minute enjoyable.
Very sad to have to leave but we will be coming back to sail with Gordon and Jenine on Salty Dog to finish seeing teh rest of the islands.
Such an incredible once in a lifetime experience.
Best family trip ever!!!
It is hard for 15 and 14 year olds to be impressed and I am certain they had a great time!
Personal favs of the week for me were the beautiful beaches, snorkeling and finding live conch shells and the green helmet shell I found (only took pics ;), the stunning sunsets, Jenine's UNBELIEVABLE food all week and Gordon's cocktails - his painkiller was the best we had all week - sorry Soggy Dollar!
George enjoyed the abundance of activities available and asking lots of questions (Ha!Ha!)
We have never done a trip like this before and we are now officially spoiled. My husband will never stay in another resort again.
Gordon and Jenine, thank you, thank you, thank you for making this week one of my Top 5 favorite vacations ever. We were catered to but appreciated the opportunity to "help out" with the mooring balls etc. Sad to see this week end but we will definitely be back.
Thank you so much Jenine and Gordon for this amazing trip and the memories
I will forever have!
We hope to be back sooner than later. We love the BVI's - the beautiful scenery, the hospitality and the fun!
I've waited nearly 25 years since my last trip and it was a dream to sail the BVI's again...with my family! Gordon and Jenine, you delivered a perfect trip, a balance of relaxation and adventure. Our girls will never forget it.
So very grateful!
This was by far our best vacation ever!
It's almost impossible not to have a beautiful vacation int he VI, but the siling experience made our vacation exponentially better.....this is largely in part because of the hard work and hospitality of Gordon and Jenine. It is a huge responsibility to care for 7 people.
Gordon and Jenine know all the best stops for us to visit. They were great with our kids (22,19,18,14,13)
All of their recommendations were excellent. Their polite and easy personalities made out trip so much more enjoyable. The food was excellent - I was shocked at everything my picky youngest ate.
Each table escape was elegant and charming.
We would hands-down recommend Salty Dog and in particular it's crew to any one!
Gordon and Jenine made our family, spanning ages 6-64 feel extremely comfortable and pampered all week. The food was amazing, the service was amazing, the boat was amazing, the sights/excursions were amazing, and the company we shared was amazing.
Gordon and Jenine quickly became extended family members which made saying goodbye more difficult. If you are on the fence about booking this trip, don't be! You will not regret it!
Besides arranging for perfect weather so that we could experience 100 degree F increase in temperature upon arrival in STT, you knocked it out of the park with kind hospitality, conversations, spectacular meals and yummy cocktails.
We were all craving a week of sun, aqua water, beautiful coral and fish, yum food, relaxation and new adventures. We got it all and can't thank you enough.
Thank you
Thanks for letting us celebrate Gordon's birthday with you. Food was great. we're going home to FAT CAMP :))
We will miss you. You're part of the family.
The itinerary was so much fun this time as we got to go to The Baths!
Thanks to the crew on Salty Dog for taking good care of us.
Hope to come back again sometime.
We wait all year long to come and visit the islands and hope it's as magical as we remember, and having a team like Gordon and Jenine is a gift!!!
They helped us create new memories by offering great ideas and suggestions for little adventures. I loved the champagne on the beach and the snorkeling adventure of Great Dog with the water scooters. But most of all I could feel the genuine care they put into making the entire experience special for us - Thank you.
Jenine, the flowers, the incredible meals, great conversations, your integrity shines through in all you do!! - Thank you
And Captain Gordon, your confidence and skill managing the eacht, and care of us was wonderful and done with ease and grace - Thank you
We hit all our favorite snorkel spots along the way - Caneel Bay, Waterlemon Cay, The Indians, Peter, Great Dog and Eustacia, and we even got to play with the water toys. We loved the underwater scooter. Thank you Captain Gordon and Jenine for the suggestion!!!!
The food was first rate! Jenine is an amazing chef and we felt like we ate like gourmands every day!
Thank you sincerely for a great trip, and we hope to be back with you in the future.
"Would love to do a follow up call this next week! It will go without saying but honestly I do not think our trip could have been any better! Salty Dog was amazing and Gordon and Jenine truly went above and beyond and everything they did was perfect! They were freaking amazing!!! "
I could have never imagined a vacation like this was even an option. The islands and sea are beautiful and every day was different and offered a new adventure. We were able to relax or enjoy as much activity as we wanted.
On our final night our farewell party was filled with laughter by people who loved and cared for each other. We will never forget our trip on Salty Dog :)
A true highlight was meeting our Captain , Gordon, and chef, Jenine! We so appreciated their companionship and conversation as well as guidance, kindness and humour.
So gracious, friendly, accommodating. So patient with our learning to snorkel and with our few physical limitations. Always suggesting alternatives so that we would enjoy the full experience of the week.
Fabulous food, great conversation, lovely table settings and each meal was a particularly pleasant and delightful touch. Blessed to have shared all this with our daughter-in-law and grandchildren. memories for a lifetime. Fun wonderful times.
