Planning a BVI yacht charter? We often recommend arriving a day early or staying a bit longer to unwind, and where you sleep either side of the charter matters more than most guests expect. Some of the hotels below are ten minutes from the marina and will happily sell you a single night. Others are private-island resorts worth flying in early for. Twelve properties, sorted by what you actually need them for, plus the practical things our brokers wish every guest asked before booking a room.
Five Things Worth Knowing Before You Book a Room
Our brokers arrange these stays for guests every week, and the same five things come up every time.
Not every hotel will sell you a single night. Several BVI properties hold a two-night minimum on certain dates, which is awkward when all you need is a bed before an early boarding. Ask before you fall for a room. The hotels closest to the marinas are usually the most flexible on this.
Your yacht can often collect you at the hotel. Rather than taxiing to the marina with all your luggage, a private water taxi can run you from the hotel dock straight to the yacht, and several of the properties below sit right on the water. Tell your broker where you are staying and it can usually be arranged. The same applies if you are arriving from St Thomas.
Free transfers are not always round-the-clock. Scrub Island runs a complimentary guest ferry and meets you at the airport, but the last scheduled crossing is around 10:30 pm. Later arrivals have to be arranged in advance and cost extra. Check the transfer hours, not just whether transfers exist.
Booking sites are often cheaper than booking direct here. That is the opposite of the usual advice, but in the BVI the large travel sites frequently undercut the hotels’ own rates. Compare both before you commit.
At Nanny Cay, ask for the newer building. The third-floor rooms there are the ones to have, and they do not cost more than the rest.
Where to Stay the Night Before You Board
These are the practical ones. Close to the marinas, easy to reach from the airport, and willing to sell you a single night. If your flight lands the day before your charter and you simply need somewhere comfortable to sleep, start here.
Nanny Cay Resort and Marina

Located right inside the Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola, it’s exactly where many charters begin and end, making it the ideal option for a night before or after your trip. No hauling luggage, no transfers, just an easy check-in and time to unwind. With 52 rooms set in peaceful tropical gardens, the hotel offers relaxed comfort, sea views, and easy access to everything onsite, from casual restaurants and a beach bar to provisioning shops and day charter options. Maria’s by the Sea
Road Town, Tortola
Maria’s by the Sea sits on the harbor in Road Town, minutes from the ferry dock and a short drive from the main marinas. It is not a resort and does not try to be one. This is where you stay when the flight lands late, the boat leaves early, and what you actually need is a clean room with a harbor view and nothing complicated about the morning. There are rooms, a pool and a restaurant on site, in the middle of the capital rather than out on a beach. Straightforward, central, and easy to book for a single night.
Sebastian’s On The Beach

Sebastian’s on the Beach is a laid-back favorite for charter guests looking to stay close to the water, literally. Located on Tortola’s West End at Little Apple Bay, it’s just a short drive from Soper’s Hole Marina, where you can get picked up and dropped off by your yacht charter. This small, locally loved 35-room hotel sits right on a great surf beach, one of the best breaks in the BVI. It’s casual, friendly, and ideal if you want a few quiet days with your toes in the sand and a rum punch in hand. Sugar Mill Hotel

Wyndham Tortola BVI Lambert Beach Resort is a convenient and comfortable pre- or post-charter stay on Tortola’s northeast coast, just under 4 miles from the airport and about a 30-minute drive from Nanny Cay Marina. Located on a quiet, scenic beach, it’s a great option for guests looking to unwind before boarding their yacht or after disembarking. The resort offers spacious rooms, a huge pool with a swim-up bar, an on-site spa, and a solid restaurant serving Caribbean and Mediterranean cuisine. Great for couples, families, or even small events.
Cane Garden Bay Beach Hotel

Cane Garden Bay Beach Hotel is a small 21-room property on the sand at Cane Garden Bay, on Tortola’s north shore. The rooms were recently remodeled and come with full kitchens and sea-view balconies, and there is a pool, a spa and a gym on site. The real draw is the bay itself, one of the liveliest on the island, with beach bars and restaurants within walking distance. It is about a 25-minute drive from Nanny Cay Marina, so treat it as a holiday before the holiday rather than a convenience stop.
Worth Flying In Early For
These are a different proposition. None of them is a convenient overnight stop, and two of them are reachable only by boat. They are on the list because they are worth building two or three extra days around, at either end of the charter.
Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina

Scrub Island Resort is one of the most luxurious stays in the BVI, and absolutely worth the detour. While it’s on its own private island just off Tortola, it’s only a quick 10-minute water taxi from Trellis Bay, right next to the airport. We can also arrange for your yacht to pick you up or drop you off directly at the small resort marina. The resort offers upscale rooms, multiple dining options, and exceptional spa facilities. One practical note if you are flying in the same evening: the resort ferry from Trellis Bay is complimentary for guests and runs roughly every 45 minutes, but only from about 6:45 am to 10:30 pm. A representative meets you at the airport, which is a two-minute drive away. Anything later than that becomes a chargeable special run, so flag a late inbound flight when you book.
Peter Island Resort
Peter Island
Peter Island Resort reopened after a full rebuild and now runs 52 rooms on its own private island, with several beaches, a spa, a steakhouse and its own marina. Access is by boat only, which sounds like a complication and is really the point: you are already on the water, and the resort marina means your yacht can collect you without anyone touching a taxi. It is expensive and it is meant to be. Build in two or three nights rather than one.
Rosewood Little Dix Bay
Virgin Gorda
Little Dix Bay is the best-known hotel in the BVI, and usually the one guests have already heard of before they call us. Laurance Rockefeller opened it in 1964, and Rosewood reopened it after a long renovation. It sits on a crescent bay on Virgin Gorda with a low-rise, quiet layout that has barely changed in character in sixty years, and it is a short drive from The Baths. Virgin Gorda is a ferry ride from Tortola, so this one suits guests arriving a few days early rather than the night before.
Oil Nut Bay
North Sound, Virgin Gorda
Oil Nut Bay is a villa-led resort community at the eastern tip of Virgin Gorda, reachable only by boat or helicopter. Again, that is less of an obstacle than it sounds: North Sound is where a great many BVI itineraries spend a night anyway, so a stay here slots naturally onto the front or the back of a charter. Expect villas rather than hotel rooms, private pools, beach and marina clubs, and service priced to match.
Aerial BVI
Private island, off Tortola
Aerial is an all-inclusive wellness retreat on its own 44-acre private island, capped at 32 guests, with a saltwater infinity pool and a program built around movement, food and rest. It is the one property on this list that is a destination in its own right rather than a stop on the way to the boat, and it carries a two-night minimum, so it does not work as a single-night stopover. Worth it if you are arriving early anyway and want the trip to start slowly.
