You do not need to do anything; your captain handles moorings, and that is genuinely one of the BVI’s luxuries. Almost every anchorage has a mooring field, so evenings end on a secure ball in a calm bay rather than an anchor watch, and the reefs stay protected.
Behind the scenes there is some strategy. Popular bays fill in high season, some fields take advance reservations through the BoatyBall app while others stay first-come, and captains plan arrival times accordingly, which is exactly the local knowledge you are paying for. Fees run about $25 to $55 a night and are inside the price on most all-inclusive boats.
