Marcus McClain
Captain Marcus has lived on all of the US Virgin Islands: St Croix, St John and St Thomas and has been entertaining island visitors here for the past eight years. On St. Croix he worked in the service industry as well as running various day sail boats as first mate and then as Captain. After delivering a yacht to Portugal he spent the summer of 2014 skippering charter yachts in the Mediterranean. Marcus holds a USCG 100ton Masters License and a STCW95.

Sara Nelson
Chef Sara hails from the farmlands of North Dakota. Although her former years were spent on a landlocked farm, she spent all her summer weekends at her family’s lake cabin in Northern Minnesota and fell completely in love with being on the water. She decided to turn her passion into reality and leave her career in sales to live a life at sea – trading in miles of pounding the pavement for miles of exploring the open ocean.

Sara has traveled all over Europe inspiring her throughout her new life. She has worked as chef and first mate on many different yachts in Greece, Croatia, the Bahamas, and Italy (Sardinia & Corsica). Eventually she made her way to the beautiful crystal blue waters of the Virgin Islands this past winter. She’s so grateful for her travels and experience around Europe, but is truly thrilled to call Relentless and the Virgin Islands her new home.

The summer of summer 2018 Sara took a French, Cuban and Classic American cuisine course at the Institute of Culinary Education in NY City.

She loves cooking almost as much as she loves eating. Her farm roots inspire her made from scratch recipes and her work ethic is demonstrated by her enthusiasm in the galley.

Marcus, Sara & Louise are thrilled to be aboard the beautiful Relentless. They look forward to welcoming guests to the island paradise they have come to call home and showing guests the time of their lives.

Christmas 2018
Wow!! This is our seventh trip to the Virgin Islands and this experience tops them all. We chose to leave home for Christmas as a family for the first time. As I look back, it was a great decision. The crew of relentless made us feel like we were home. They made sure our kids were happy and went above and beyond. At the end of seven days, we have three new friends (Marcus, Sarah & Louise) that will last a lifetime. Life is made up of experience and this one will always be memorable.

1. Was the crew friendly and accommodating?
Marcus and Sara were the perfect crew. They were very attentive to our needs and made us feel very special. Marcus was knowledgeable about hot spots in the BVI’s and set a wonderful itinerary for us, reviewing the plans with us and changing them on the fly if necessary. Sara’s meals were creative and delicious. She catered to our dietary needs,effortlessly. We truly looked forward to each and every meal.

2. Was the yacht comfortable and clean?
It was both beautiful and clean. One of the things we particularly liked was the spaciousness of the deck space with ample seating areas to find a quiet spot if needed. We loved the top deck and it’s 360 degree view.

3. Was the yacht well ventilated?
Yes there was always a spot to find a cool breeze and the air conditioning in the cabins at night was wonderful

4. Was the food good and well presented?
Sara’s food was like a top quality restaurant. she catered to 2 of our gluten free guests and vegetarian also. The dishes were both delicious and beautifully presented.

5. Did you like the area you sailed?
The BVI’s are amazing! You’re never too far from land and the water and weather were sublime. We especially loved the times that we sailed including our 2 hour sail to the remote island Anegada. The snorkeling was amazing and Marcus brought us to places that allowed to see sea life we had never before seen.

6. Additional comments on your charter?
I would also highly recommend taking a charter with Marcus McClain and Sara Nelson. They were fun and attentive to our needs and we felt very comfortable being in their company for a week.

Very excited and impressed. It was clean, well organized, contemporary design, and large.

What did you think about your accommodation?

All were great. We stayed in the master suite, so we were spoiled.

Salon, cockpit, deck space:
Great. Only feedback during the week would be it would have been great to have a bit more shade in the skybridge area.

Was the boat kept clean during your charter?
Very-Marcus and Sara were wonderful, attentive hosts.

Did you miss anything on board?
Nothing

What did you enjoy most on board?
The space...we have a party of 8, plus the captain and chef, but we never felt crowded.

Please describe your Captain:
Marcus was incredible. Very knowledgeable, very professional, but also very approachable with a great sense of humor. We asked a million questions, and he was always helpful, informative and insightful.

What do you think about your itinerary, the places and bays you visited and the activities you have done?
It was all perfect. Marcus approached us each morning with a plan or idea, and it always worked out great. He knew the right sports for private snorkeling, sunsets, etc.

Please describe your chef:
Sara made the trip. Her food was incredible, perfect portions, very creative, fresh and tasty. We had one person on the trip that preferred some different items, and she went out of her way to customize his menu. Plus she was fund and energetic and a joy to be around.

Please describe you meals:
Top notch. Something you'd get in a high quality restaurant. Very precise presentation details. I have no idea how she does that in such a small galley.

Do you feel the meals and drinks reflected the requests you made in your preference sheet?

I was actually going to send you an email to thank you for arranging this trip for us. We LOVED it, truly!
First, your assurances about the crew were spot on, they were just great. Marcus is such an experienced sailor and extremely competent, really excellent. Both of them have a very mature way of seeing things and are committed to having the guests have what they want and have a good time. in addition they were gracious hosts, really beyond their years (offering drinks, refilling coffee, attending to details...)

Jonathan and I are both cooks, Jonathan a gourmet cook. We loved Sara's cooking, she did an amazing job. Three full meals per day, attending to freshness, color, texture, taste, in addition she was creative. I took photos of many of the meals because they were so aesthetically pleasing. She clearly had been guided by our preferences, and cooked to them. She baked outrageous desserts as well, OMG!

The boat was in excellent shape. It was clean, the bathrooms cleaned daily, beds made for us (!), the beds were comfortable. There was adequate space so that the 3 couples could all be separate to read or talk, and the space comfortable for the 6 of us to eat.

The itinerary was built by Marcus on the basis of what we wanted to do . We made the plan the night before mostly, in a group discussion. We found great places to snorkel and paddle board, really nice sailing legs where we could enjoy the wind and the sea. The pace was perfect because Marcus paced it to our wishes. Both he and Sara really paid attention to what we were saying and did their best to accommodate our wishes...

I would absolutely recommend this crew without reservation, and the boat as well.

Thank you for an unforgettable first trip to the BVI - all I can think about is when/how we can come back. Thank you for being kind and patient with me while I got comfortable snorkeling and while Jesse fell off the paddleboard 500 times "because of the board" I'm sure you hear this all time time, but this trip was life changing in so many ways. We certainly consider you friends and really hope you will come visit us in UT. I'll get on Jess to finish the basement.

Marcus and Sara,

Wow! What a remarkable adventure. Scott and I enjoyed every moment aboard the lovely Neverland. You two made it extra special. Snorkeling - a first for Scott - and front row parking everywhere we went. Sailing was a blast. The ship immaculate. Your attention to detail is very much appreciated. I felt safe and comfortable for the entire trip. Sara's culinary skills wowed So very tasty - and healthy. Marcus was an excellent guide.

We really enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. Now, from 81 degrees to 7 degrees and a coming snowstorm in Utah!

We had the pleasure of sailing with Sara for a week in the spring of 2018. Our party included 2 families with a total of 4 kids between the ages of 8 - 13. We all enjoy authentic, flavorful food, and Sara did not disappoint. From tuna poke to eggs diablo to pork belly tacos, the food was varied, delicious, and beautiful! She accommodated a food allergy and our kids when they had special requests (which were rare because they loved her food too) and she even put them to work, prepping ingredients and setting the table. She did all this with an effervescent joy despite struggling with a boat kitchen that was less than ideal. Sara turned a good week of sailing into an exceptional vacation that will be difficult to repeat in our lifetime.

Our week long trip on the Templar was amazing and it had a lot to do with our lovely crew! Sara's cooking was not only delicious but also very creative given that we were on a boat! She managed to present the meals so beautifully too. I am not sure how she did it but she is magical. Sara was also incredibly kind to our kids. The little ones loved "helping" Chef Sara during meals and whether they helped or not, Sara was more than willing to include them. We definitely hope to do this again and will request our amazing crew when we are ready to go!

I enjoyed this trip a lot. The great meals, the music, Dukie (until it died), the sailing, the snorkeling, swimming, shopping and sitting and enjoying the beauty around us. Mattias even learned to fish and we had a great time. I saw pelicans, sting rays, sea turtles, tropical fish and Tarpons. I have never seen any of that cool stuff before and it was fun seeing them. Thank you so much for this awesome trip!

It couldn't have been better!

From minute one to the last minute of our trip, Marcus made us feel at home on board with an easy going, friendly charm. Right away he showed us around the yacht, which in itself is amazing: plenty of space to move about, seek privacy, lounge comfortably, sleep like a baby, and even take a refreshing shower. Marcus exceeded our expectations as the captain of our vacation and Karizma!

Marcus patiently and graciously showed us the ropes and gave us the opportunity to pitch in with sailing as we desired. We hold him in high regard and find ourselves missing his company now that the trip has come to an end.

Our days felt easy, revolving around what we wanted to do, with no rushing or pressure. Captain Marcus gave us solid advice and told many a story about the BVIs both from natural and historical perspectives as well as the real truth about living there. He enabled us to get a genuine feel for the life many of us only dream of. Marcus personally led us on hikes, and took us to amazing spots we likely wouldn't find on our own. From Tarpon feeding on Saba Rock, extraordinary banana daiquiris, a tour of Anegada by truck complete with a picnic on a beautiful secluded beach and many more.

We left the yacht feeling we had a satisfying mix of pleasure, relaxation and adventure. It was truly a trip of a lifetime and not one of us wanted to wake up from our dream vacation. We will be back!
