Captain: Richard Coning

Captain Rich:
Captain Rich hails from a small coastal town on the Atlantic Ocean. Growing up on the ocean, he has spent his entire life on the water. He was introduced to sailing after high school, when he crewed on a boat headed for the Virgin Islands. Immediately he was hooked and spent the next two years sailing and surfing the Caribbean. After meeting Kate, the two of them purchased and rebuilt their own boat to cruise the islands. A few years later he decided to pursue sailing professionally. After obtaining his 50 ton masters license with the UCSG, Rich and Kate have worked on boats along the East coast, Caribbean, and Mediterranean. With years of experience sailing together and an extensive knowledge of Virgin Islands waters, you will be in great hands.

Rich’s main passion in life is being in the ocean and enjoying the outdoors. As an active member of the Surfrider foundation, he is always looking for ways to live a more sustainable life. He looks forward to sharing his passion for water sports with guests, whether it’s tracking down waves along Tortola’s north shore, stand up paddle boarding, or water skiing.

His favorite part of the day is entertaining guests with craft cocktails and tales of the days adventures while the boat effortlessly sails off into the sunset.

Chef Kate:
Growing up in a landlocked city in Russia, the idea of sailing the ocean had never crossed Kate’s mind. It wasn’t until a summer exchange program brought her to the Atlantic coast where she met Rich. Now married for 8 years and after many sailing trips on their own boat, she couldn’t imagine life any other way.

With a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from San Diego State University, her fresh culinary style reflects throughout a healthy fare. She channels all her incredible energy and brilliant ability to think outside the box into creating delicious masterpieces for guests to enjoy.

Having had the opportunity to travel the world, including Egypt, Thailand, Greece, and Italy, she has had the chance to sample many of the world's cuisines. She takes great delight in sharing these flavors with you. Quality of produce and locally sourced fresh foods remain the mainstay of her cooking. Vegetarians and vegans are very welcome with Chef Kate!

Kate seamlessly marries her talent in the galley with her natural ability to entertain. She is very flexible with a lively, outgoing, and bubbly personality. Kate aims to make your vacation as enjoyable and as fun as possible.

Reviews:

March 2020
Ocelot sailing experience is truly amazing. Between our 3 couples, we have traveled the world and this week with Kate and Richard is our favorite travel experience. The moment you board the boat, they make you feel at home. The boat has an abundance of lounging areas that allowed all of us to find places to relax and enjoy sailing. Richard is a knowledgeable captain, taking us to islands, snorkeling spots, and luxurious bays each day. Last but certainly not least, Kate’s cooking is delicious! She has a sweet way of catering to each guest and for us she was truly the gem of the Caribbean. This is the trip you can’t miss. Can’t wait to sail with Richard and Kate again.

We had an amazing week on the water with Kate and Richard. This trip well exceeded our expectations! The two of them went above and beyond with the smallest details to our adventure both on the water and on land. The food, cocktails and their thoughtfulness for what our family would enjoy will make this a trip to always remember.

This was truly a once in a lifetime experience. This was a surprise for my husband’s birthday and it beat all of our expectations. Richard and his wife were so warm and accommodating. They created a very relaxing and memorable experience for us! The weather was perfect and we saw the most breathtaking sunset. Highly recommend this boat tour to anyone!!

Richard and Kate are friendly and welcoming. They were very accommodating as we were running behind schedule to arrive. Once aboard, they were offered refresing drinks and snack! They were open to answering any of our questions and engaging in conversation. Would definitly recommend and bring our friends along!

The boat ride with Richard and Kate was so special! They are both friendly and passionate about providing a fun and relaxing experience, all of us had a relaxing time. Thank you for teaching us how to steer the boat, and answering all our questions. Highly recommend! P.s. the dolphins are so cute :)

Richard and Kate delivered an amazing experience. They were knowledgeable of the area and the history. They took us for a beautiful trip. Their sailboat was gorgeous and snacks were perfect. Kate made an olive hummus which was delicious. This was a truly magnificent experience. So thankful to Richard and Kate!

So much more personal than larger excursions - classy, yet laid back and relaxed! We were coming by ferry from Cape May, so to simplify logistics, Richard and Kate arranged to dock their boat at the private dock just outside the bar at the ferry terminal. They are so warm and hospitable - effortlessly managing sailing while also serving homemade snacks & libations and entertaining guests with stories about their beautiful vessel and the local area! We truly enjoyed and absolutely recommend this experience! Equally delightful for those who have been sailing before, as well as those who want to see it for the first time.

This was the icing on our beach getaway weekend! Richard & Kate are living the dream and passionate about their love of travel, adventure and sailing. Their boat is another story: a labor of love, built by a master craftsman over a 20 yr period. It just doesn’t get any better than this! Thanks to Richard & Kate for a memorable evening.

Had a blast sailing with Richard and his wife. Both were genuine, and excited to trade life stories. Their boat is beautiful and you could tell instantly the level of passion they share for the water is immense. I’d highly recommend this to anyone staying in the area!

Richard and Kate are wonderful hosts. We had a wonderful evening sail with them and happened to be the only guests that night. It was a cloudy evening, but the experience was wonderful being on the water, sailing, on a beautiful boat with comfortable seating...glass of wine and great people. Perfect

Sailing with Richard was the highlight of our trip to Lewes! While we were sailing, a large tour group passed us and the difference in experiences was so stark - the tour group was huge and on a large, generic boat, compared to our small, intimate group on Richard’s one sailboat. The scenery was stunning and Richard and his wife were incredibly gracious hosts. They didn’t interfere with our time, but we’re readily available any time we had a question or needed something. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Richard and Kate are wonderful hosts, they made us all feel very welcome on their delightful sailing boat. They were both very competent sailors and made the whole experience feel not only special, but safe. It was my wife's first ever trip on a sailing boat, and she loved it. Thank you both - we'll do it again sometime.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time! I booked this as a surprise and she loved it. Sailing on the calm ocean was so peaceful and beautiful. Richard and his wife Kate are wonderful, friendly people and made us feel at home. Overall, the wine/beer, views, and great conversation made for an amazing way to spend the evening and watch the sunset over the ocean.
