Price Terms

Plus Expenses - add APA to the price you see

Plus Expenses arrangement includes the boat and crew only (without tip).

All additional/variable expenses such as Gas and Food are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) - an additional deposit that is added on top of the charter price.

The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption).

For a sailboat like Columbia, the expected APA is 15% to 30% of the charter price ($10,200 - $20,400), making the charter cost $78,200 to $88,400. Exact amount will be confirmed after inquiry.

You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled).

The remainder of the APA is returned after charter.

Crew

Captain: Seth Salzmann

Captain Seth shapes each charter around his guests with the precision of someone who has crossed a lot of ocean and learned exactly how to turn any weather into an experience worth talking about. He runs Columbia like a true classic schooner master, steady-handed and unflappable, so you can push the sailing hard while feeling completely at ease.
  • Over 20 years’ guest-experience work at sea.
  • More than 15 years as captain on classic sailing yachts.
  • Has commanded renowned schooners including Adventuress, When and If, and Malabar X.
  • Joined COLUMBIA as captain in 2018, logging tens of thousands of miles on large schooners.

Dylan co-captains with his brother Seth, giving Columbia a tight, seamless command team that keeps the boat driven hard and the guest experience tuned in from the first sail hoist to the last dock line. His calm, low-profile style lets the show belong to the yacht and the sailing, while the operation behind it runs smooth.
  • Rotational captain on COLUMBIA alongside his brother Seth.
  • Has spent the last two years aboard COLUMBIA with consistently strong guest reviews.

Gray runs the deck with the easy confidence of someone who grew up on schooners and has already crossed the Atlantic more times than most people cross town, so guests get authentic big-boat sailing without the rough edges. He turns Columbia’s rig and crew into a clean, fast machine, while keeping guests plugged into the action at whatever level they want.
  • Started sailing schooners at age 14 in Key West, Florida.
  • Sailed traditional boats including Appledore and When and If as a teenager.
  • Served as deckhand on COLUMBIA for several seasons between New England and the Caribbean.
  • Completed four Atlantic crossings aboard the three-masted schooner Adix, plus extensive Mediterranean, Western Europe, and Caribbean cruising.

Annie brings a racer’s edge and an artist’s eye to the helm, turning every tack into something sharp and deliberate while keeping the boat’s classic spirit front and center for guests. She reads New England and Caribbean waters like home turf, so you get aggressive sailing when you want it and quiet, well-chosen anchorages when you don’t.
  • Grew up sailing and racing dinghies on Cape Cod and Buzzards Bay.
  • Spent summers on tall ship Shenandoah, sparking a lifelong focus on schooners.
  • Former competitive dinghy sailor and youth sailing instructor through university.
  • Served multiple seasons on classic yachts including Ticonderoga and as skipper of 75ft schooner Rebecca in New England and the Caribbean.

Hayley moves guests smoothly between sail-handling, water time, and laid-back cruising, bringing a guide’s patience and a deckhand’s work ethic to every day on board. She knows how to turn snorkel runs and harbor hops into simple, well-paced days that feel effortless from the guest side.
  • Discovered sailing while studying for her bachelor’s degree at the University of Kentucky.
  • Trained in Boothbay Harbor, Maine before joining a fleet of Alden schooners in Portland Harbor.
  • Worked as deckhand, snorkel guide, and eco host in the Bahamas and Australia.
  • Returned to New England to focus on traditional schooner sailing aboard COLUMBIA.

AJ folds science, storytelling, and performance into the charter, giving guests a sharper connection to the ocean they’re sailing through without ever turning it into a lecture. She brings a creative energy that flips easily from hands-on deck work to memorable evening entertainment.
  • Former Education Manager for Call of the Sea, a marine-education nonprofit in Sausalito, California.
  • Has taught ocean conservation and marine science aboard brigantine Matthew Turner and schooner Seaward.
  • Experienced producer of nightlife events in Mexico, including fire dancing and aerial arts performances.
  • Joins COLUMBIA as a new crew member, adding education-focused programming and performance skills.
