A3 Yacht Description
A3 is a stunning 2016 56' Lagoon Catamaran featuring 3 queen cabins and a bunk cabin, each with private ensuite baths including electric heads, vanity and separate showers. She boasts multiple areas to sit and relax or sip a cocktail and enjoy the cool trade winds over the beautiful blue Caribbean water! The salon will comfortably seat up to 8 guests in comfort for lounging or dining. The exterior offers alfresco dining for up to 8 guests, top deck seating and lounge area in front of helm plus forward lower deck lounge area behind trampolines. With numerous lounging areas, there is plenty of space for gathering as a group or finding a private place to really unwind. Water toys include snorkeling gear, floating mats and tube, 2 stand-up paddleboards, and 2 fishing rods.
DIVING: A3 offers onboard diving with a qualified PADI Instructor. Dives for certified divers are $50 per person per dive, payable to crew directly. Maximum 6 divers at a time and 4 dives per week (depending on number of divers). Resort course offered at $150 per person (maximum number of resort courses offered per week is 4). Rate includes use of boats dive gear.
Presented by DMA Yachting, the impressive charter yacht A3 is a 56 ft sailing catamaran. A3 spends the summer and winter season in British Virgin Islands. She was constructed by the famous yacht builder Lagoon in 2016. The expansive yacht layout features 4 cozy cabins and easily accommodates a group of 8 guests.
A3 is offered primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the heart of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck features a variety of seating areas and that's where most of the delicious meals are served. The tasteful cabins are connected by stairs to the main saloon - roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The cabins offer designer mattrace beds and feature ensuite bathrooms. Multiple portholes add to the feeling of connection with the discovered environment.

Born and raised in New Jersey, I discovered my passion for sailing at an early age. My journey led me to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where I studied Mathematics and Finance. During a transformative semester abroad in Switzerland, I seized the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe, deepening my love for adventure.
After realizing my heart belonged at sea, I moved to South Africa to earn my Captain's license. My maritime career took me to the Mediterranean, where I enjoyed a thrilling season sailing picturesque coastlines and the beautiful Virgin Islands where I have worked as a freelance captain.
In addition to my sailing experience, I’ve served as an EMT and a lifeguard, prioritizing safety and preparedness in all my endeavors. I also worked as a sailing coach, sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with aspiring sailors.
Most recently, I became a Dive Master in Honduras, further enriching my skills both above and below the water. When I’m not sailing or diving, I love kitesurfing, always on the lookout for the next adventure.
Now based in the British Virgin Islands, I’m excited to share my passion for sailing with guests, offering unforgettable charter experiences filled with exploration, relaxation, and the breathtaking beauty of the open sea.
Maia grew up in a small town north of Boston, Massachusetts in a family of entertainers. Whether it was hosting extended family for Christmas Eve dinner, gathering neighbors to watch sports events, or welcoming friends for a homemade brunch, something was always going on at the Gifford house. Any good party is never complete without the food and Maia was taught from a young age that homemade is always best. Her parents ignited a desire to learn to make anything from scratch and to try to replicate favorite dishes from trips abroad.
After graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with an Environmental Engineering degree, Maia hoped for something more than the typical 9-5 desk job that her degree promised and decided to take some time off to explore the world. While searching for a way to affordably travel Europe for the summer, Maia stumbled upon a position as a yacht chef. This job combined her love for cooking and entertaining with her desire for adventure and spontaneity. What was meant to be one summer has now turned into three years of working charters in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and French Polynesia. In each new location Maia has learned new skills from locals and fellow yacht chefs that she’s excited to bring to you on charter.
Jake and Maia met the summer of 2023, both working together for the same yacht company in Croatia. They became fast friends after a week trip to Albania with mutual friends that same summer. This fun active duo forward to hosting you onboard their spacious and beautiful yacht A3!

We missed the BVI's but still had a great time. Would not sail to St. Croix again but would stay around St. John and St. Thomas

Matt and Colleen were wonderful! They made our dream vacation even better by all the ways they went above and beyond to see that our family had a wonderful time. Colleen made sure we visited the places we wanted to see. Matt made the most delicious food we have ever eaten, better than any 5 star restaurant. He made the most amazing specialty cocktails. The family loved getting up in the morning to see the theme of the day for the meals and drinks. Colleen was very informative about our questions about sailing and destinations. Matt and Colleen make a great team. It was our second trip with them and we hope to have another. The first one we didn't take the adult kids. We had such a great time we wanted to take our adult kids for our 30th anniversary. They made it a special time for entire family.
Suffice it to say, we are already talking about when we can come back and spend time with Matt & Colleen on A3. Thank you a million times over for pair us with such a fantastic crew. We are missing them already.
Frankly, I don’t know if there are enough good words to describe the experience. Several of our co-passengers thought it was the best vacation they ever had.
The crew is ideal. Captain Colleen is a highly professional and competent captain. The boat was spotless and she kept us on track and organized for the entire trip. She made us very comfortable at all times. The perfect captain.
Matt is an extremely talented chef. I have eaten in some of the finest restaurants in the world and was impressed by every meal. We ate seafood caught from the boat at least three times. They describe themselves as a “foody boat” and we certainly agreed.
Both Colleen and Matt worked hard for 16 hour days. I don’t know how they do it.
The boat itself is top notch. That Lagoon 56 has everything and is very roomy. They also have it stocked with high quality linens, plenty of dive equipment, great bar, great music, etc.
All that said, we would like to get details for signing up for the same week next year. Available? Deposit required? We would want the contract contingent on the same crew. BVI itinerary if the borders are open by then.

Having Stanley's 4th birthday on the boat was special and they decorated the boat up very nicely and Thanksgiving was exceptional.
I was having a ball because it turned out to be the event I hoped it would be and made wonderful memories for the entire family. Daddy got major props!! No drama, no stress, just what the doctor ordered.
Typical for the weather, the wind was on the nose as we made our way east along the north side of St Thomas and St. John's and was then non-existent as we sailed/motored west towards the end of the week. Oh well, thank God for engines. I did get to drive the boat some so I was very happy. We had a night sail/motor as well on a great evening. Could not have been better.
All in all, it was a fantastic week; the fit between family and crew ( we adopted them and wanted to take them home with us) was just right and your advice was spot on for us.

We are just back from our trip to the USVI. We want to thank our broker for recommending Matt Proto and Colleen Korona to us. They were awesome and a perfect fit for our family. Beforehand, I didn’t realize how important getting the right crew would be — but after a week on the boat in tight quarters, I can now see how essential that is. We came away from the trip thinking we wouldn’t want to charter with anyone other than Matt & Colleen in the future! Matt’s food was unbelievable, and I loved the way Colleen encouraged my teenage daughters and young adult son. Colleen & Matt were both so easy and enjoyable to be with.
Although we were together only 5 days, it feels like we've known you much longer as friends. This trip was fantastic, all because of you two. Thank you for the fun times and wonderful memories. It was first class all the way. I hope our paths cross again in the future.

They went above and beyond to make sure we had our dream vacation. They met every need or want and then some. They truly make the best team to sail with. Their knowledge of sailing, the sea....above and below water, and the islands make them who you want to take you on the water. We had planned to eat several dinners on land...until we had our first taste of Matt's culinary skills! The meals he prepared were some of the best we've ever had or probably ever will have...until next time, that is! Colleen was an impressive but fun captain.We truly had the time of our life and a big part of that is because of them. We felt that we left as friends and plan to join them on another adventure!

What a wonderful week! Y'all have truly become a part of our family. This Christmas has been truly fantastic. Our elves brought lots of laugh for all. Waking up on Christmas morning was so special for Kaiden and Kinlee. Zach loved the dive with Matt and may be ready for more on our next trip. The beach picnic was such a treat. Such a great week spent with friends - including you all. Our second trip with you has been filled with an experience of a lifetime: Your knowledge of the islands made our trip really enjoyable. Sailing, scuba, snorkeling and sun - all fantastic. Drinks were fun - the ones on the boat and all the bars on the islands. So many islands, it is hard to pick a favorite, but both St. John and Anegada up there. Matt, your food is incredibly delicious! % stars every meal. Loved the whole trip and am looking forward to doing it again.

This cruise was on our "bucket list" and it fulfilled our desires in so many ways.
It is an understatement to say the meals were great - the variety was unbelievable, the presentation was amazing, and the taste superb. It is hard to believe you were able to produce such fine dining meals from the compact galley!
Colleen, your masterful boat handling compares with the captains on the high seas! We were never disappointed with the stops chosen, and your desire to make sure we were satisfied was another positive. Your knowledge of the area helped us do the things we hoped to do. The snorkeling was fun and enabled us to see things we've never seen before. The Baths were spectacular - as were the hiking trails.
Both of you created a memorable week for us in so many ways. Your personalities cheered and motivated us to attempt to many things.
Experiencing heavy blows and tropical rains enabled us to see your excellent boat handling and your desire to keep us safe. Everyday was a new adventure that helped us to enjoy sailing as well as learning something about this part of the Caribbean!

Yet the most memorable part of the trip was the crew. Captain Colleen and Chef/First Mate Matt planned a wonderful itinerary and made sure we were able to anchor near Bitter End Yacht Club for New Years. Matt's food was amazing - delicious but light and healthy! The kids already commented how we will miss his cookies when we return home.
We would love to some day take another charter cruise with Colleen and Matt.

Mixed weather, a sputtering outboard, rouge jellyfish, and distasteful jellybeans are all part of the positive memories made during our voyage. We cannot thank you enough for a week full of adventures, family memories, and experiences of "firsts". John and Jill were over the moon excited to share the VI and BVI with Kaiden and Kinlee. You have made the boat life a new way of life that we all enjoy. You both provided all of us -three generations- an experience and adventure to be remembered forever. Kaiden loved snorkeling with the barracuda and being Matt's sidekick. Kinlee, the adventurous five-year old, loved everything from fast rides, to learning to snorkel in the caves, and riding the swan.
Both of you have become an extension of friends and family to all of us. We are FOREVER thankful. Swimming, snorkeling, laughing, sailing, movie watching and lyric reciting laughs are to be remembered for years to come.

The highs were many - superb snorkeling (and multiple sightings of spotted eagle rays), excellent hikes, a bit of Christmas shopping, and the nonstop parade of five-star meals from Matt!
