Catamarans for 12 Guests

There are a few crewed catamarans licensed for 12 guests, but they’re rare and tend to book out early.

Motor Yachts for 12 Guests

Larger motor yachts that take 12 are easier to find than big sailing cats — especially if you’re booking early.

They typically offer more space and speed, but at a higher price point. Great for groups who want more comfort and don’t mind a bit less sailing.

Tandem Charters (13–20 Guests)

Two yachts, chartered together, with crews who coordinate your shared itinerary, meals, and activities.

This is the most flexible way to charter for large groups. Everyone gets space, no one’s crammed in, and the experience still feels shared — if it’s done right.

Why Can’t You Have More Than 12 Guests on One Yacht?

Private charter yachts are limited to 12 guests under international maritime law (known as the SOLAS convention). To carry more than 12, a yacht must be commercially certified, which most aren’t. That’s why even 100-foot yachts often cap at 12.

Tandem charters let you sidestep this without sacrificing experience — by using two yachts, each with its own legal guest capacity.
