Captain: Ryan Bane
Captain Ryan has always lived close to or on the water. Ryan grew up in Michigan on the Great Lakes. This 50 Ton Merchant Mariner has a BA from Michigan State University. He had tried his hand at various business ventures, but the Siren Song of the Virgin Islands kept calling his name. Raised in a suburb of Detroit, Capt Ryan was cruising on his first sailboat by age 10. When Ryan did a Natural Science Study Abroad with MSU the USVI and BVI he knew he found the perfect paradise. Ryan's love of local Ecology and Natural Science always drew him back to these spectacular dormant volcanoes rising out of the sea. Ryan has many other Hobbies & Interests including Traveling, Diving, fishing, Surfing, Building SUP, Woodworking, Drone Flying, Photography, Yeti using, Dancing in flip flops, and just having a blast!!!! Ryan is working on his acquiring his dive masters certification hopefully next season...
Katie is a traveler with a passion for food and people. This year will be her fifth year living out of a backpack and she doesn't plan on moving out of it anytime soon. She's traveled to 12 countries in the past 5 years while hiking, surfing, snowboarding, camping, and, of coarse, eating & cooking. She loves cooking with flavors that highlight the countries she's visited, from traditional fare, to more modern fusion.
The food was delicious! It is always difficult to cook for a mix of adults and kidsI know this acutely since I am the cook in our family, but Ashley did a great job. I dont think we pushed the boundaries of her cooking expertise at all, but I could tell she could offer a lot more for a group of adults .
The boat was perfect for a group our size. We took full advantage of the tubing, paddle boarding and snorkeling. The boat was in great condition and clearly maintained well. We all felt very close to Ryan and Ashely by the end of the trip and miss them already. I sincerely hope they take us up on our offer for them to visit us on the west coast during their off season! All in all I would recommend Ryan and Ashley to everyone that would want to explore a trip like this and we are already talking about when we might be able to do it again!!"
During our trip we went to the BVI. Ryan and Morgan made it super easy for us to check in to customs and get us on our way. We didn't even have to get off the boat. We made it all the way out to Norman Island and hooked up to a mooring in a bay. Ryan and Morgan took us out to a large boat called Willy T's where we were able to grab food and drinks. It was a really unique experience. We met people from all over the world, including a crew from France who were circumnavigating the globe.
The next day we did two snorkeling stops. Our first stop we did was to see a coral reef and two caves nearby. I am not the strongest swimmer but Ryan had some floating noodles to use to help with snorkeling. It was a nice touch that they thought of and made me feel more comfortable getting out into the ocean. Morgan even came out with us and showed us two awesome caves and explained what types of fish we were seeing.
This was my first time on a large catamaran and I didn't really know what to expect. Each bedroom has it's own bathroom and the sheets, towels and decor were really nice. The living room and kitchen area were big and there was plenty of space to relax. The main deck in the back had a large seating area with a big table we typically used to eat at. Ryan had nice large coolers on board for drinks and Morgan cooks up some great food.
I would recommend bringing sun screen as you will get a lot of sun snorkeling. I even think it's a good idea to bring a long sleeve polyester shirt that dries quickly in case you burn easily. I wore sandals, board shorts, and quick dry t-shirts everywhere we went and it worked out well. I never saw a need to dress up even at the fancier places we visited. I was surprised at how many places accepted credit cards through out our trip. You will still want some cash, but you don't need to carry large amounts ($200+).
I would absolutely recommend Siren Song Charters to anyone visiting the the US Virgin Islands or the BVI. I can't wait to go back.
I was blown away. Ryan (the Captain with an undergrad degree and MBA from Michigan State) and Morgan (with a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and masters at First Mate University) are smart and fun dudes...and quite polished. They're able to show you the islands from a local perspective, versus the touristy cruise-line in and out. They also demonstrate the epitome of first class service, and will end up being guys you want to keep in touch with.
It was surprising how close the island destinations were to one another, and the trips between were incredibly relaxing. Anyone fearing sea-sickness need not worry, due to the double hulls and lulling coasting speeds (6-8 knots). You can visit the US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, and more, in a matter of minutes or hours.
If you have the opportunity, 5+ days are ideal. Make sure to hit up Willy T's on Norman, in Blight Bay. Due to weather, we weren't able to check out Jost Van Dyke (and the infamous Soggy Dollar), but we hear they're a must-see. Either way, Ryan and Morgan will guide you around the islands appropriately, without pushing any agenda.
I highly recommend the venue, and if you want to amplify a good vibe, request them to play "Doses and Mimosas" over the ample sound system. I plan to be back regularly, whether it be with my bros, and/or wife and kids.
The boat accommodations were perfect for our party. The crew keep the boat neat and tidy and it presented very well. There were plenty of games on board and Morgan was the first to join in with the family playing multiple rounds.
The activities each day were laid out and adjustments were made to steer us towards "family friendly" activities and environments so that everyone had a great time. They were especially attentive to the kids needs, while preparing the perfect adult beverages for the parents! Having been to the BVI multiple times we were able to see a number of new places and adventures while enjoying the highlights of the Willie T, Bitter End, Baths, and Jost Van Dyke. The snorkel spots they took us to were great and perfect for the family to be able to spend as much or little time there as we wanted.
Ryan and Morgan were the perfect hosts! Both are very knowledgeable of the area and were quick to point out hiking spots, snorkel spots and great beaches to go hang out on. They are both very happy and upbeat people and eager to get you going or leave you alone if you want to relax and chill on the topside hammock. Morgan's meals were very tasty and offered us a great variety throughout the week. His drink selections even better.
highly recommend chartering with Ryan & Morgan aboard the Siren Song for your family vacation or any other vacation. You will not be disappointed with the boat, the captain or chef, or the destinations that they will take you to. Thanks guys!!
